Norman Harper

Organist and Conductor

Norman Harper was organ scholar at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he read for a music degree and studied organ with Peter Le Huray and Gillian Weir. Since then he has given organ recitals and accompanied choirs at cathedral and concert hall venues throughout the UK, including Westminster Abbey, St Paul's, Southwark and Westminster Cathedrals, as well as in France, Germany, the Czech Republic and Estonia. Touring in the USA, he has given recitals at the National Cathedral and other prominent churches in Washington DC.

Norman has broadcast solo organ recitals on BBC Radio 3, and his CD of French Baroque and English 20th century music, recorded at Bolton Town Hall, was released in summer 2000. His latest solo CD, which includes music by Bruhns, J.S. Bach, Mozart and Brahms, was recorded on the organ of the Servite Priory, Fulham and released in 2002. He has also recorded tracks for CDs of music by Thomas Hyde (Lucis Creator) and Peter Tranchell (Sonata for Organ).

In recent years Norman has played for many broadcast services on BBC radio and television, and he appears with Beckenham Parish Church Choir on a CD of organ and choral music by the English composer Anthony Cæsar. He is currently director of the Girls' Choir at St George's RC Cathedral, Southwark, musical director of the Alleyn Singers and Friends' Musick, and assistant musical director for Wimbledon Choral Society. He is presently continuing his organ studies with David Sanger.

Recent recital venues have included St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St. Michael and All Angels', West Croydon, St. Matthew's, Westminster, Beckenham Parish Church, Southwark Cathedral, St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol, Clare College, St. John's College and King's College, Cambridge.
